Peter Wood
CEO/Regional Arts Development Officer

Peter has over 25 years experience in the arts and creative industries. He has worked in senior marketing and communication roles for Sydney Opera House, Company B Belvoir, Bell Shakespeare Company and Historic Houses Trust NSW.

In 2005 Peter relocated to the Northern Rivers and worked as an arts consultant on numerous projects including the development of a business plan for Arts Northern Rivers’ Visual Arts Network project. He has also worked for Arts Northern Rivers as Communications Manager. In 2008 he took up the position of Communications Director for Assembly Theatre in Edinburgh, returning to Australia in 2009 to become the Marketing and Sponsorship Director for Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Peter is a trained teacher in early childhood education and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Drama) from the Victorian College of the Arts.


Julie Clark
Communications Officer

Julie has more than 20 years experience in the arts and creative industries, including seven years as a Cultural Development Officer in the UK, followed by ten years working in the private sector in Sydney – across, film, television, music, media, marketing and advertising. She has a degree in Recreation Planning and Management and an MA in Journalism.


Natalie Bull
Office Coordinator/Arts Development Assistant

Natalie has over fifteen years working as an Events and Project Manager along with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA Honours) COFA UNSW and experience in the Creative Arts sector. In Natalie’s spare time she work’s as a graphic designer, collects all manner of things and endeavors to dedicate more time to her own art practice.


Helen Fry
Acting Communications Officer

Helen Fry is a journalist and communications specialist who spent two years as editor of the Northern Rivers Writers’ Centre magazine. She is currently editor of The Lennox Wave, contributes articles to several local publications, teaches writing and communication at Lismore Community College and is on the Executive Committee of the Lennox Arts Board. Helen has a Communications degree and a Professional Writing Diploma.


Grant Binns
Finance Manager

Grant is a Certified Practising Accountant with over 20 years experience who has been engaged as Finance Manager at Arts Northern Rivers one day per week.

Grant spent the first 10 years of his working life in financial accounting roles in banking and stockbroking in Sydney and London followed by 10 years working as Finance Manager and CFO roles in the not-for-profit sector. Recently he has established a public accounting practise based in Byron Bay that serves not-for-profit and micro business clients in the Northern Rivers. Grant is passionate about using his skills and experience to support organisations that serve their community and is proud to be a member of the Arts Northern Rivers team.


Robert Appo
Indigenous Arts Development Officer

Robert provides advice and support to local Aboriginal artists, to further develop their practice and assist them progress to a professional arts career. He offers one on one assistance via an outreach service, coordinates opportunities for group learning, and develops and promotes opportunities such as regional exhibitions, to help create new audiences for local Indigenous artists’ work. Robert’s position is supported by the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, for a period of three years, until 2012.

Rob is a Minjungbal man who grew up locally in Tweed shire. For the past 15 years he has enjoyed a successful career as a visual artist.


Julie Barratt
Accessible Arts Officer, North Coast

Julie Barratt is employed by Accessible Arts New South Wales, but works out of the Arts Northern Rivers office.

Julie is responsible for ensuring quality arts programs and creative opportunities for people with disability across the North Coast of NSW. She works with artists, the disability sector and arts workers across 13 council regions from Kempsey in the south to Tweed in the north. Enabling platforms for emerging and established artists with disability to develop and showcase their work is an important aspect of her position.

Julie comes to the role with a sound background in arts, teaching and small business management. She established Alstonville’s Barratt Galleries, which she ran for five years, and in early 2011 she took a break to set up a printmaking studio in Nepal for young Deaf women.
