The Indigenous Arts Development Project (IADP) aims to work in partnership with local Indigenous artists and organisations to build the capacity within this sector to better compete both artistically and commercially.

The Project hosts the employment of an Indigenous Arts Development Officer as well as an Indigenous Arts Business Manager.

The IADP was implemented through an initial approach by Bundjalung artist Digby Moran to then, Arts Northern Rivers CEO/RADO Lois Randall.

There was an Indigenous Arts Advisory Committee established and funds were sought to start the work needed.

The Indigenous Advisory Group registered as an Aboriginal Corporation in April 2010 the Rivers of Art Aboriginal Corporation (RoAAC).

Currently Arts Northern Rivers and the Rivers of Art Aboriginal Corporation are negotiating a pathway for RoACC to bridge and become an independent organisation.

Funds have been made available to secure a premise in Lismore which functions as the Indigenous Arts Business Center, which has a small exhibition area as well as artists' studios and workshop areas.

The IADP works across the whole of the Northern Rivers region and provides support services for artists via an outreach service, offering one on one assistance, professional development workshops, and opportunities to exhibit their work and build on existing audiences.

This project is supported by the Australian government through the Office for the Arts.
