Meet Emma Walke (Djirrawong)
My name is Emma Walke and I am Bundjalung woman and potter from the North Coast of NSW. I love ceramics, it gives me a lot of joy. I predominantly make functional ware with the odd foray into sculpture and wall hangings. I generally use stoneware clays to make my work and fire to 1260-1300C degrees.
I am inspired by this beautiful country, the land, river and sea I love and my culture. I try, where I can, to use our language for each design. Sometimes I am inspired by my past, or places I have lived, like the Batik range, from a dress my mother wore when I was a child and we lived in Indonesia.
