Meet the New Wave of Young Indigenous Creatives

IAM: Indigenous Arts Mentorship is part of our Indigenous Arts Program and has been funded through Arts NSW’s Strategic Fund.

Ten young Indigenous creatives from around the Northern Rivers were selected to take part in the program, which matches the emerging creatives, aged between 16 and 25, with arts industry professionals.

The creatives were chosen for the passion they expressed for their artform and determination to kick-start their career in the arts across music, fashion, film, dance, comedy and visual arts for four-months of mentoring, support and significant opportunities.

The mentors and ‘mentees’ have agreed to meet on regular basis over a 4-month period (March to June 2015). The sessions have been designed to further develop the young creatives interest and skills in their creative practice, as well as exploring potential career and educational pathways to further their career aspirations.

At the conclusion of the 4-month mentoring period all participants, mentors and project partners will come together for a showcase opportunity with the aim of:

  • Sharing experiences
  • Performance / exhibition / demonstration of skills developed (where appropriate)
  • Further exploration / information sharing of potential education and career pathways for young participants.
