Official Launch Connecting Communities
Newly appointed Accessible Arts Officer North Coast, Julie Barratt has announced the launch of Accessible Arts' Connecting Communities project.
The launch will take place at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery in Ballina on Saturday February 11, from 2 to 4pm.
The Connecting Communities project is designed to assist in the establishment of new arts and disability networks and to support existing opportunities for people with disability to fully experience and participate in the arts.
This includes increasing representation in the arts of artists with disability and supporting the development and promotion of accessible venues, activities, studios and communications.
Everyone is welcome to attend the launch and to meet Julie and learn more about this important initiative.
There will also be an exhibition of works by local artists with a disability.
Expressions of interest for Steering Committee
At the same time as part of her role Julie Barratt is forming a steering committee to guide the development of projects and initiatives that promote more inclusive practices in the arts and broaden access and representation for artists with disabilities.
Committee members will discuss events, forums and audience development across all art forms throughout the region, and bring their personal experience and knowledge to the table.
If you are an artist with a disability, a practitioner from the arts and disability sector or a representative of local government or arts venue, you are encouraged to participate.
Expressions of interest are being sought to form two steering committees comprised of four members each, across 13 council regions from Kempsey to Tweed.
Accessible Arts North Coast is also interested in developing a database of contacts in the arts and disability areas on the north and mid north coast.
Please contact Julie if you are interested in being on this database.
