Rappville Creative Workshops

Rappville Creative Workshops

We’re on track to deliver Rappville Creative, an artist-led placemaking project in 2021 contributing to the creative recovery of Rappville – a Richmond Valley community devastated by bushfires in October 2019. The project outcome will deliver a public engagement event designed to build sustainable cultural tourism in the town, delivering ongoing benefits for the local community and wider creative sector of NSW.

Throughout 2021, the project will be delivering a range of creative workshops for the Rappville Community including; drawing, photography, plant identification, poetry, tree plantings and more! Upcoming workshops include –

Connect. Collect. Grow | Saturday June 26

A seed discovery workshop with Michelle Chapman, founder of Seed Tree Maps and co-author of Australian Rainforest Seeds: a guide to collecting, processing and propagation (CSIROPublishing, 2020). Michelle will share some of the secrets of fruit and seed collection and propagation. After reconnecting with familiar plants and exploring new natives through a sensory and scientific journey, you will never look at trees in quite the same way again!

Michelle, alongside project artists Charlotte Haywood and Lyndall Phelps, will deliver a fun, hands on 2-hour workshop exploring how plant and tree species can be used to inspire new gardens, local ecologies, artworks, flavours, food, maps and community. Share plant stories and walk away with some free seeds to experiment with at home.  Using the maps and guide, Michelle makes the science of seed handling easy for everyone, because she hopes one day tree growing will be as popular and normalised as recycling or growing veggies.
