They say the Northern Rivers is home to some of the most diverse, vibrant arts communities in Australia with the highest concentration of creatives outside of metropolitan areas. But is it really? It’s time to show who we really are!
In 2024, we’re doing new research to find out what our creative community looks like today – and where we want it to grow in the future.
Arts Northern Rivers and research partner Patternmakers, supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW, are calling for all creatives, audiences and anyone with an interest in arts and culture in the Northern Rivers region to make sure your views are represented.
How can you participate?
You’re invited to complete an anonymous survey:
It only takes 10-15 minutes, and by completing it you’ll not only make your voice heard, you’ll also have the chance to enter the draw to win one of 3 x $200 Mastercard gift vouchers.
What happens to your responses?
We will develop a report to inform arts and culture strategy and planning at all levels of decision-making. We will share solid evidence about the economic, social and cultural value of our creative sector.
Fact sheets will be produced about each LGA, and on key topics that emerge from the responses collected.
For us at Arts Northern Rivers, it will help us understand what artists and audiences in our region need in order for our arts and culture industry to thrive for the next 5-10 years.
Why is this needed?
Having an accurate picture of our creative ecosystem is important to ensure support goes to the right places. The information we collect is going to be available for us all to use.

What if I need help?
Our team is standing by to help you participate. We’re planning a series of survey pop-ups across the region, where we will be reaching out to different parts of the community. We’re also planning some assisted events, where we will engage with an Auslan translator and support workers, to assist people with disability to participate.
