CALL FOR ABORIGINAL ART

Gnibi College and Southern Cross University Library will be hosting a NAIDOC art exhibition from 17 July – 4 August 2017 at the Learning centre on Lismore SCU campus. They are inviting expressions of interests from local Aboriginal artists who would like to showcase their work.

Artworks must be available for drop off at SCU between 5 and 13 July.

NAIDOC POP UP INDIGENOUS ART GALLERY | OPENING NIGHT

Nortec, Tweed South invite you to the Opening Night of their NAIDOC Pop Up Gallery. Monday 3 July. 4pm – 6pm. There will be a Welcome to Country, bush food, art displays and entertainment.

The Pop Up Gallery will be exhibited throughout NAIDOC week 3-7 July 2017 at Nortec, 87-89 Minjungbal Drive, Tweed South. For all who are interested, there is an open invitation to pop in anytime during the week.

DREAMING TRAILS

Dreaming Trails is a one day art and community event curated by Alison Williams and featuring the work of Frances Belle Parker, Jeremy Mudjai Devitt, Digby Moran, Kim Healey, Kylie Caldwell, Brentyn Lugnan and Jai Walker. Visit the beautiful Corindi Beach to enjoy the art, dance, storytelling, workshops and delicious bush tucker that is available.

The day is full of many events and activities including the official opening of the Dreaming Trails Exhibition,  a Smoking Ceremony, dance performance, free art workshop, medicine tour and free bush tucker.

Dreaming Trails is a collaboration between Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Lismore Regional Gallery, and has been supported by the Aboriginal Regional Arts Fund through Create NSW.

NAIDOC AT NORPA | A CULTURAL FEAST ON THE LANDS OF THE BUNDJALUNG

Naidoc at NORPA is a cultural feast on the lands of the Bundjalung with local regional and national artists highlighting cultural matters.

Lismore City Hall will be activated as a cultural hub to highlight the diversity of Indigenous talent and share the stories that many Australians have not witnessed or heard.

Ceremony and language will be led by Bundjalung elders and dancing performances by The Deadly Bunharms, Bundjalung Nini Nahri-Gali and Muggerah. Local musicians Billy Smith, Teddy Lewis King, Tom Avery and will be joined by national dreamtime/electric/roots sensation OKA (pictured above).

Blackscreen films and forums on climate justice language matters and the referendum will plant an exchange of knowledge through respect from an Aboriginal perspective.

Young NAIDOC  | Social Futures – Northern Rivers Social Development Council are proudly supporting the Young NAIDOC day in Lismore, 10 July 9.45am – 4.30pm. The day includes a Hip Hop workshop with TLK, the Solid Mob Workshop – Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds and Arts & Crafts Workshops and a BBQ lunch. Lismore NAIDOC Celebration Day runs from 10am to 2.30pm at the Lismore Showground on Thursday, 29 June. Entry is free and the whole community is welcome. The day features a formal Welcome to Country and information stalls from more than 30 local service providers, as well as family activities including sports games, children’s activities, face painting, food stalls, and a talent showcase by local schools. There will also be Aboriginal business displays, dance performances and an Elders’ Tent with morning tea and lunch provided. Read More

Richmond Valley NAIDOC Events in Casino, Coraki and Box Ridge.  Monday 6 July 2015 there will be flag raising ceremonies outside Council Chambers in Casino and at the Riverbank War Memorial in Coraki. The NAIDOC Week March on Walker Street and Family Fun Day in Crawford Square will follow the Casino Flag raising ceremony. On Tuesday 7 July 2015 there will be a screening of the film Rabbit Proof Fence in Casino. A Family Fun Day, Sports Day, and Disco will be held at Box Ridge on Wednesday 8 July 2015.

Ballina NAIDOC Week Events will kick off with the launch of the Annual NAIDOC Week Exhibition at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery on Thursday 25 June. The Exhibition will run from Wednesday 24 June to Thursday 25 July 2015. The Ballina Annual Celebration Walk will be held on Monday 6 July. Clarence Valley NAIDOC | A family fun day will be held on Thursday, 6  July from 10am-2pm. It will be a day of fun and an opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal culture and languages. Activities will include: free sausage sizzle, language demonstrations, mechanical bull, jumping castle, service provider stalls, commercial stalls, entertainment, indigenous games, prizes and dancing.
