Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Applications Open

Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Applications Open

Applications are now open for the Tweed Regional Gallery’s Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio program for 2019.  The Studio is an on-site, live-in studio at the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre.

Overlooking the picturesque surrounds of the Gallery, with views to Mount Warning/Wollumbin, the AIR Studio is a dynamic legacy of Margaret Olley’s support for artists through personal mentorship and professional assistance.

Gallery Director Susi Muddiman said the AIR program is open to both emerging and established artists.

‘The objective of the AIR Studio is to enable and encourage a variety of artists to stimulate their practice in a creative environment,’ Ms Muddiman said. ‘Local, national and international artists have enjoyed this creative space since it opened in 2014.

‘This is a hugely popular program and I would urge anyone interested to get their application in quickly.’

Artists are invited to apply for a residency giving them exclusive access to this amazing studio at a subsidised rate of $330 per week. Applications are now being accepted for residences in 2019 and will be assessed and processed in the order in which they are received until the 2019 program is booked out.

Mullumbimby artist Gatya Kelly said she found her time at the studio to be very inspiring. ‘Two weeks at the Nancy Fairfax AIR studio far exceeded my ambitious expectations,’ Ms Kelly said.

‘The studio/living spaces are so well and comfortably designed they create the perfect container for intensely focussed work – there are no distractions, just beautiful surrounds. I felt my own painting practice shift to another level.’

The AIR Studio is generously supported by benefactor Mr Tim Fairfax AC and named in honour of his mother Nancy Fairfax, who was a great friend of Margaret Olley.
