Who Are Our Candidates?

A targeted look at support for the Northern Rivers Creative Sector ‍

In an effort to foster transparency and engage the community in the upcoming local elections, Arts Northern Rivers is pleased to announce the distribution of a comprehensive questionnaire to mayoral and electoral ticket leader candidates running for Northern Rivers local government area elections. (*Some of the ticket leader candidates have also invited responses from some of their election ticket members).

With around 5,000 cultural and creative workers, the Northern Rivers has the largest professional cultural sector in NSW outside a major city. We believe that continued collaboration and innovation will be key in addressing challenges and harnessing the full potential of this dynamic sector. The questionnaire is aimed at gathering candidates’ positions on and commitment to arts and culture and the Northern Rivers’ creative sector in their LGA.

These are the three questions we asked the Local Election Candidates:

1. What do you see as the number one arts and cultural priority or need for your Shire/Council region?

2. What three arts and cultural priorities would you aim to achieve within your term if you are elected?

3. How do you think you would best support council staff to achieve these arts and cultural outcomes?

We are sharing with you the completed and compiled questionnaire responses, received from candidates across the Northern Rivers region:

Click on your LGA to view the answers, along with the names of each election candidate and their respective LGA.

Ballina Shire Council
Byron Shire Council
Clarence Valley Council
Kyogle Shire Council
Lismore City Council
Richmond Valley Council
Tweed Valley Council

This initiative is part of our commitment to ensuring that voters are informed about their candidates' views and plans before casting their ballots. We encourage all members of the community to take part in this election process by staying informed and we hope you can be part of promoting ongoing transparency and well-informed political literacy in our region.

Arts Northern Rivers would also like to extend an invitation to any candidates who were unable to respond in time to the questionnaire, but would still like to engage with the process, or share the questionnaire with their election ticket members. Please click HERE to access Questionnaire Form and we will share your responses.
